UN Women in Action

In Aceh, UN Women is working to integrate gender equality perspectives into all aspects of the peace building effort, including:

  • Engendering the Aceh Recovery Framework (ARF) through the Gender Working Team (GWT)
  • Organizing workshops for women ex-combatants on violence against women, economic empowerment and legal rights
  • Socialization and advocacy on elimination violence against women in post-conflict areas
  • Providing gender technical assistance to the Bureau of Reintegration Aceh (BRA)

In Timor-Leste, the mandate of peacekeeping forces was strengthened to prevent systematic sexual violence and support women’s participation in peace consolidation, following the passing of UN Security Council resolution 1820 with technical input from UN Women
